AAA Notes For Transmission Cores

Notes for Transmission cores:

In order for a transmission to have full core value it must have:

  • A good main case and bellhousing. Many VW transmission cases and bellhousing are partially magnesium, which can corrode severely when exposed to salt and moisture. The cases can also be damaged from previous work, or repairs without the proper tools.

  • A good ring and pinion. This is especially true of late model WBX (091-094) models. These are expensive and can often be a large portion of the actual core value.

  • Good useable main shaft

  • There should be no unusual damage. Wear and tear is normal, but exploded components or water inside a transmission are not considered normal.

Cores returned must be drained of oil and relatively clean.

Dismantled cores will not be accepted. Transmissions have mated components and a shimmed to a particular case. In many cases there a specific tools to dismantle VW transmissions.

The value of a core may be diminished if only some components are beyond use, but other are useable. Pictures of your transmission and components can be provided upon request.

It can take up to 120 days for a core to be evaluated.
